Bina-Bhopal-Itarsi Railway Project: Fourth line to be laid at a cost of 4329 crore

The Central Government has approved a major railway project to lay a fourth line between Bina, Bhopal, and Itarsi. This 237-kilometer corridor will cost 4329 crore rupees and aims to reduce congestion on the Delhi-Chennai route. The project is being implemented under the PM Gati Shakti Yojana and is expected to be completed by 2028.

What are the key features of the new railway line?

The project will increase the total track length to 264 kilometers. It will allow for more trains and higher speeds, with a target of 160 km/h and potential increases up to 220 km/h. The work will be divided into four phases: Bina to Sumer, Sumer to Rani Kamalapati, Rani Kamalapati to Barkheda, and Barkheda to Itarsi.

Which districts will benefit and how will construction start?

This development will benefit six districts of Madhya Pradesh, including Narmadapuram, Bhopal, Sehore, Raisen, Vidisha, and Sagar. The survey work is already complete, and the railway has released 100 crore rupees in the current financial year. Construction will begin with the building of bridges over the Narmada and Betwa rivers.
