What are the operational details of the Hydrogen Train?
The train consists of a 10-car set powered by a 1200 KW hydrogen fuel cell propulsion system. It is approved to run at a maximum speed of 75 kmph. The pilot project will operate on the Jind-Sonipat section of Northern Railway in Haryana. To support this, a hydrogen storage and refuelling facility has been set up at Jind, while maintenance will take place at the Shakurbasti depot in Delhi.

The train was indigenously designed and manufactured by the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai. The Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) completed the necessary oscillation trials in March 2026 and approved the maintenance manuals. Additionally, the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO) provided the license for storing and dispensing compressed hydrogen gas at the refuelling site.
