Traveling by train requires a clear understanding of the rules, especially when passing through states where alcohol is banned. Ignoring these laws can lead to serious legal trouble for passengers. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) conduct regular checks to ensure compliance.

Which states have a total ban on alcohol

Certain states in India are known as Dry States where the purchase, sale, and consumption of alcohol are completely prohibited. These include Bihar, Gujarat, Nagaland, Mizoram, and Lakshadweep. If a train enters or passes through these states, any passenger carrying alcohol can face strict legal action under the state excise laws.

What are the penalties for violating alcohol rules

Drinking alcohol on trains or railway platforms is a punishable offense across the country. According to Section 165 of the Railways Act 1989, violators can be fined between 500 to 1,000 rupees or face up to 6 months of imprisonment.
