The demand for a new railway halt at Kolhua village in Bihar has gained momentum. DRUCC member Rajesh Kumar Mishra submitted a formal request to the General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway on Friday, May 22, 2026. This appeal was made during the GM’s inspection visit to the Araria-Galgaliya railway section at Araria Court.
Why is the Kolhua railway halt needed?
Currently, there is a 15-kilometer gap between Laxmipur and Bardaha stations, which creates significant travel problems for local people. Kolhua village is centrally located among 35 nearby villages. Since the area is prone to flooding, road connectivity often fails, making a railway halt a reliable alternative for transport.
Who will benefit from this project?
If the halt is approved, it will serve a large population and multiple administrative areas. The key benefits are listed below:
| Beneficiary Group | Details |
|---|---|
| Local Population | Approximately 1.5 lakh residents |
| Village Coverage | 35 surrounding villages |
| Administrative Reach | 4 blocks of Araria |
| Special Regions | Kursakata region and Nepal border areas |
Rajesh Kumar Mishra mentioned that this proposal was already presented in previous DRUCC meetings to highlight the urgent need of the public.
