Local residents of Baheratand in the Kuju OP area of Ramgarh district stopped railway work on Friday, May 22, 2026. The protest happened because the railway department planned to demolish bridge number 236. Villagers blocked movement and demanded an alternative route to avoid connectivity issues.

Why did the villagers protest and what was the demand?

The residents were worried that removing bridge number 236 would cut off their direct link to villages like Sandi and Tilaiya. This would make it very difficult for students to reach their schools. The contractor, Gaurav Construction, was scheduled to start the demolition work on Saturday, but the villagers stopped the process to demand a proper alternative path.

What was the agreement reached between Railway and locals?

Following the protest, a meeting was held between railway officials, local representatives, and the villagers. The Senior Section Engineer of Barkakana, Aniruddha Kumar Singh, and other officials agreed to build an alternative route approximately one kilometer long from bridge 236 to 239. The railway promised to build an approach road to the new bridge after acquiring two acres of land.
