The primary work is happening on the Gonda-Budhwal section between Gonda and Gonda Kachahari stations to lay a third railway line. Additionally, Gorakhpur Junction is undergoing a redevelopment project worth 498.97 crore rupees, which includes building a foot overbridge on platforms 7 and 8. CPRO Sumit Kumar confirmed that these blocks are essential for long-term infrastructure improvement, with the Gorakhpur project expected to finish by May 2027.

The construction work will cause major changes to train operations. Between July 5 and 11, over 32 trains, including those to Anand Vihar Terminal and Purnia Court, will be cancelled. In June, more than 77 trains will be cancelled due to track maintenance. Many superfast trains like Duronto and Jnaneswari will run on diverted routes.
