Etihad Rail has officially released its Passenger Charter, establishing clear guidelines for luggage allowances and pet travel ahead of the network’s upcoming full-scale operations. These standardized rules apply to all passengers, ensuring a safe and organized travel experience across the national railway network. Key highlights of the new policy include:
* Standard baggage allowance: Each adult and child aged three or older is permitted two pieces of luggage.
* Infant policy: Children under three do not receive a separate allowance and must share their accompanying adult’s quota.
* Cabin bag dimensions: Overhead luggage must not exceed 55cm x 40cm x 23cm.
* Pet travel: Domestic pets and falcons are allowed in approved carriers, which count as one piece of luggage.
* Strict prohibitions: Items like bicycles, scooters, hazardous materials, and alcohol are strictly banned.
Luggage Guidelines and Safety Requirements
To ensure a seamless boarding process, Etihad Rail requires all passengers to be capable of handling their own belongings. Luggage must be clearly labeled with the passenger’s name and contact details. While small personal items like handbags or laptop bags are permitted under the seat, all other luggage must be stored in designated overhead racks. It is critical to note that passengers must not obstruct aisles, doors, or emergency exits with their baggage. If travelers require additional storage beyond the two-piece allowance, they must arrange for this in advance through official Etihad Rail channels.
Pet Policy and Restricted Items
Etihad Rail has adopted a pet-friendly approach, allowing domestic pets and falcons onboard provided they are kept in secure, approved carriers measuring no more than 55cm x 40cm x 23cm. The pet carrier will occupy one of the passenger’s two allowed luggage slots. For those traveling with trained and certified assistance dogs, advance booking through the contact center is mandatory.
Beyond luggage and pets, the charter outlines several safety prohibitions. Bicycles and scooters, including foldable electric models, are not permitted on board. Furthermore, the use of smoking devices and e-cigarettes is strictly prohibited on trains and within station premises, except in specifically designated smoking zones. These regulations mark a significant step forward as the network scales up following the initial trial services that commenced in late June 2026.
