Indian Railways is upgrading the Bag Express (Train No. 13019/13020) which connects the North East and Bengal. The railway board has decided to replace old ICF coaches with modern LHB (Linke Hofmann Busch) coaches. When will the new LHB coaches start
The Eastern Railway headquarters in Kolkata has issued official orders for the implementation of these coaches. For train number 13019 starting from Howrah, the LHB coaches will be effective from 5 June 2026. For train number 13020 starting from Kathgodam, the new coaches will be operational from 7 June 2026. This notification was issued by Chief Passenger Transportation Manager C.S. Prasad.
What are the benefits of LHB coaches
Railway officials stated that LHB coaches are safer and more suitable for high speeds compared to old coaches. These coaches reduce jerks during the journey, making long-distance travel smoother. In case of accidents, LHB coaches do not climb over each other, which significantly reduces the risk of loss of life and property.
New coach composition of Bag Express
The total number of coaches in the train will be reduced from 18 to 16. However, because LHB coaches have more seating and sleeping capacity, the availability of seats will not be heavily affected. The new structure is as follows:
| Coach Type | Number of Coaches |
|---|---|
| AC 2-Tier | 1 |
| AC 3-Tier | 3 |
| Sleeper Class | 6 |
| General Class | 4 |
| Power Car / Brake Van | 2 |
