Kanpur is finally set to get relief from its long-standing traffic woes. The Ministry of Railways has finalized the tender for the Mandhana-Anwarganj Elevated Railway Corridor project after a gap of 22 years. This 15.51 km long track will eliminate the need for 18 railway crossings, benefiting over 50 lakh people in the city.
What are the key details of the project?
The project is estimated to cost approximately 1115 crore rupees. The construction responsibility has been handed over to a private company, and the site handover process is currently underway. The state government has already released 35.87 crore rupees for land acquisition, and about 22,306 square meters of land have been acquired. The project aims to be completed by October 30, 2027.
How will this change the city’s railway map?
The project will bring significant changes to the local station network. Rawatpur and Kalyanpur stations will be closed to make way for a new world-class station. This new facility, named Atal Bihari Railway Station, will be built on agriculture department land in front of CSJMU. It will also be connected to the Kanpur Metro line via a skywalk for easier commuting.
