Railway services on the Pathankot-Jogindernagar route have faced a setback just a week after their restart. A pair of trains has been cancelled starting Wednesday, June 10, 2026. These services were brought back on June 2, 2026, after a long gap of four years.
Why were the trains cancelled
DRM Jammu, Vivek Kumar, stated that the decision was taken because there are not enough loco pilots available for safe operations. Due to this shortage, the railway administration can currently operate only two pairs of trains on this route. The cancelled service operated between Nurpur Road and Baijnath.
Details of the cancelled train service
| Route | Departure (Baijnath) | Arrival (Nurpur Road) | Return (Nurpur Road) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nurpur Road-Baijnath | 6:00 AM | 12:00 PM | 2:10 PM |
The rail services on this route were stopped in August 2022 after the bridge over the Chakki River was damaged. The service resumed on June 2, 2026, after a new bridge was built at a cost of 70 crore rupees. MP Anurag Thakur and MP Dr. Rajiv Bhardwaj had flagged off the trains.
What is the current status and future plan
MP Dr. Rajiv Bhardwaj expressed surprise over the sudden cancellation without prior notice and mentioned he would speak with the Railway Ministry. Meanwhile, the Ministry has approved a detailed project report and traffic study for converting the narrow gauge line to broad gauge. A private consultant company is currently conducting this study.
