Who can travel in Divyangjan coaches?
Passengers holding a valid UDID card issued by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD) are now permitted to travel in unreserved coaches earmarked for Divyangjan. This applies to Mail and Express trains. Eligible passengers can use the following coach types provided they have a valid ticket:
- Second Class Luggage-cum-Brake Van with Divyangjan compartments (SLRD)
- Luggage-cum-Second Class Luggage-cum-Brake Van with Divyangjan compartments (LSLRD)
How to get the Railway Concession Card?
The Divyangjan Card, also known as the E-Ticketing Photo Identity Card (EPICS), is the official document for availing travel concessions. This card is issued based on valid disability certificates, and UDID cards are accepted for specific categories. Passengers can apply for new cards or renew existing ones through the Indian Railways Divyangjan portal or the Central Government services portal.
What are the rules for unauthorized travel?
The Ministry of Railways has clarified that these reserved facilities are strictly for bona fide PwD passengers. To prevent misuse, strict action will be taken against any unauthorized person found occupying these coaches. Such actions will be carried out under the provisions of the Railway Act, 1989, to ensure the facilities remain available for those who actually need them.
