Indian Railways is introducing a Quick Watering System to fill water in train coaches faster. How does the Quick Watering System work?
The new system replaces old 4-inch pipelines with larger 6-inch pipelines to increase water pressure. It uses high-power pumps and a computerized SCADA control system. This allows railway staff to operate valves remotely and monitor water consumption and leakages through a computer system.
What are the main benefits for passengers?
The primary advantage is the drastic reduction in watering time. A 24-coach train that previously took 20 minutes to fill now takes only 5 to 8 minutes. This leads to fewer delays at stations and ensures that toilets and washbasins have a steady water supply.

Where is this system being implemented?
East Central Railway has already started this system at 12 major stations including Patna, Muzaffarpur, Dhanbad, and DDU. Additionally, a tender was published on June 21, 2024, to bring this facility to Buxar station. The Railway Board has also approved similar installations at other locations like Sambalpur city station.
